How To Improve Your Curb Appeal

I just read a wonderful post on the Walpole Outdoors blog that talks about boosting curb appeal. When I say "curb appeal," I mean that a buyer rolls up to your house and can't believe their eyes. Jaws drop, eyes widen, and their heart starts beating a little faster. If you have the right amount of curb appeal, you can win the sale before they ever step through your door - I've seen it! Boosting curb appeal doesn’t have to be expensive. Instead you just need to strategically highlight what your property already has going for it. Image title

First, you'll want to create an area of interest. According to Walpole Outdoors:

A surefire way to boost your homes’ appeal is by adding an external structure that will serve as a point of visual interest. A great example of this are homes that feature pergolas near the front of their yard or attached to the home. Pergolas are stately and never go unnoticed. A sleek white structure that extends or adds on to the home will draw interest and boost your home’s value. If a pergola is too much of a change to your home’s structure consider a much simpler arbor. Arbors come in a variety of styles and can be customized fully insuring you have a structure as unique as your home. This structure adds a whimsical element to an entryway instantly pulling the space together.

You'll also want to create a memorable entry. This doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune on giant gates adorned with lions on the posts. Simple improvements like replacing old fencing and adding a new gate can go a long way. Smaller touches like planters and window boxes also make a world of difference. Maybe a lantern on a sturdy lantern post along your walkway.

Mix these two efforts with garden maintenance, and you're on your way to creating a jaw-dropping, eye-widening, house closing experience.
