Whether your family prefers a few friendly ghosts or an afternoon collecting treats, here are some local outings to add to your calendar.
Boo in the Barnyard
Saturday, October 17 and Saturday, October 24 | Sessions at 10 and 11 a.m.
Weir River Farm
For little ones who love animals more than jump scares, Boo in the Barnyard offers a cheerful way to celebrate. Kids can wear costumes, meet the farm’s animals, enjoy a Halloween scavenger hunt, make a seasonal craft, and collect a sweet treat.
Alden Haunted House in Duxbury
Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 | 5–9 p.m.
Alden House Historic Site
A little history, a little mystery, and plenty of Halloween atmosphere: the Alden House celebration includes mildly haunted house tours, a spooky maze, and a haunted trail with costumed characters.
Costumes are encouraged, and admission is $15 per person. Organizers recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time because popular slots can sell out. The event is not recommended for children under four.

Halloween Fair and Costume Parade in Cohasset
Sunday, October 25 | 1–3 p.m.
Cohasset Common
For a classic community Halloween celebration, head to Cohasset Common. Hosted by South Shore Community Center Nursery School, the annual Halloween Fair begins with a costume parade at 1 p.m., followed by activities including Knucklebones, face painting, and music from DJ Melissa.
The event is open to the public. Tickets are $30 per child, or $80 for families with three or more children; adults attend free. Proceeds support the school’s scholarship and enrichment programs.
Halloween Paddle Parade in Onset
Sunday, October 25 | Confirm timing with the organizer
Onset Bay Center, Wareham
For a different kind of costume parade, take the celebration to the water! The Onset Bay Center’s Halloween Paddle Parade invites participants to dress up and paddle around Wickets Island with staff guides. Spectators can watch from the beach or pier.
The event is free, with advance registration required to borrow the center’s limited equipment. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and all paddlers must wear a personal flotation device. The event page currently shows conflicting times, so confirm check-in and launch details directly before making plans.
Make a Little Time for Local Fun
