How To Fix Up Your Lawn Before Listing Your Home

If you are thinking about listing your home you want to make sure it looks as best as it possibly can. One area you might not think of, but has a huge impact on how good your home looks, is your lawn.

The exterior of your home has a huge impact on how much money you will ultimately sell it for. And while spending time touching up chipped paint and fixing your fence is great, you also want to focus on how your lawn looks.

Often the first image someone sees on a real estate listing is a front exterior shot of a home. Your lawn and landscaping will take up a good portion of that image! If your lawn looks great it can often make your home look better and vice versa.

You don’t have to do a massive overhaul of your lawn and landscaping to make a meaningful difference. Here are some great things to do to spruce up your lawn before your home hits the market!

Pull Crabgrass

If your lawn is overrun with crabgrass and you think it looks unsightly you have to do more to remove it than simply mow over it. To get rid of it you physically have to pull it out. If your lawn isn’t huge or you don’t have a lot it may be worth it to spend a Saturday pulling crabgrass and reseeding areas of your lawn.

Add Fertilizer

After the winter has passed most lawns don’t look too pretty. Once the snow melts and the temperature heats up a bit you should add some fertilizer to your lawn to ensure it grows quickly and fully. You can find a variety of fertilizers at your local hardware store that are season specific.

Fill In Bald Spots

If you have a lot of bald spots, filling them in can improve the look of your entire lawn. To fill them in you will need to aerate the areas and then reseed and water thoroughly.

Adapt High Traffic Areas

Do you have any wear on your lawn due to high traffic? If people constantly walk over your lawn to get to the front door it may be worth just putting in some kind of pathway to the door to disguise the wear and add a little more character to the outside of the home. You can build a path easily yourself with gravel or stone depending on how long the path of wear extends.

Finding your next home can be stressful - but it doesn't have to be.
