Pumpkin Patches & Fall Farm Fun on the South Shore
There’s something about fall on the South Shore that makes you want to get outside. The cooler air arrives, leaves begin changing, front porches fill with mums, and suddenly a Saturday afternoon at a local farm sounds like the perfect plan.
Whether your goal is finding the perfect pumpkin, taking the kids on a hayride, getting lost in a corn maze or simply picking up cider donuts and some fall decorations, there are plenty of great places to celebrate the season close to home.
We’ve rounded up some of our favorite pumpkin patches and fall farm destinations on the South Shore and nearby communities for 2026.
Nihtila Farm — Holbrook
For a more traditional neighborhood-farm experience, head to Nihtila Farm in Holbrook.
This family-owned farm has been operating its pick-your-own pumpkin patch since 2001. For 2026, pumpkin picking begins September 18 and runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the end of October. Hayrides operate Saturdays, Sundays and Columbus Day.
Kids can also see farm animals and enjoy the play area, while adults can stock up on pumpkins, mums, gourds, cornstalks and other fall decorations. And yes—there are warm cider donuts.
One important thing to know before leaving home: Nihtila Farm is cash only, although an ATM is available on site.
C.N. Smith Farm — East Bridgewater
C.N. Smith Farm has been part of East Bridgewater's agricultural landscape for generations and remains one of the area's best-known destinations for locally grown produce and fall activities.
The farm's 2026 apple-picking season is underway, and its farm stand offers its own seasonal produce along with cider, local products and its popular Donut Barn. The farm also grows pumpkins and is accepting bulk pumpkin requests for organizations and fall events.
The farm has traditionally offered weekend pick-your-own pumpkins with hayrides to the patch, but its pumpkin-specific page is still showing its 2025 schedule as of September 2026. Check directly with the farm before heading out specifically for pumpkin picking.
Sauchuk Farm — Plympton
For a full fall-festival experience, Sauchuk Farm should be near the top of the list.
Its Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch runs weekends from September 19 through October 31, 2026, at the farm's 200 Center Street location in Plympton. Admission is required to access pumpkin picking, and the farm also operates its farm stand nearby on Palmer Road.
Beyond pumpkins, Sauchuk is known for turning a farm visit into a full family outing. If you're looking for somewhere to spend several hours rather than simply grab a pumpkin and head home, this is a great option.
Dalby Farm — Scituate
Here's one to add for families looking for something a little different.
Dalby Farm in Scituate is a 160-year-old educational family farm focused on preserving heritage livestock breeds. Rather than a traditional pick-your-own pumpkin field, it offers seasonal farm experiences and special events.
For 2026, Sheldon's Hidden Pumpkin Hunt takes place October 17 and 18. Visitors search for decorated pumpkins around the farm, visit the animals, enjoy seasonal treats and stop at the Country Store. Reservations are required for the semi-private visits.
It's a particularly fun option for younger kids or families who've already done the traditional pumpkin patch.
Pakeen Farm — Canton
If you're coming from the northern side of the South Shore, Pakeen Farm in Canton is another easy fall outing.
The historic farm's 2026 Fall Harvest season began September 10, with September and October devoted to its autumn season.
Pakeen has a quieter, classic New England farm atmosphere that makes it a nice alternative to some of the larger fall attractions. Check its current offerings before your visit, since activities and pick-your-own availability can change throughout the harvest.
Kennedy's Country Gardens — Scituate
Another Scituate option brings fall festivities closer to the coast.
Kennedy's Country Gardens is holding its Fall Festival & Maker's Mart on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The family-oriented event includes a pumpkin patch, pumpkin painting, fall yard games, a spooky walk and scavenger hunt, photo opportunities and local artisans.
It's not traditional pick-your-own farming, but it's a nice choice if you're looking for pumpkins and fall activities without committing most of the day to a larger farm.
Ward's Berry Farm — Sharon
Ward's Berry Farm is another longtime local favorite and a convenient choice for families coming from the western side of the South Shore.
The family farm offers seasonal produce and fall activities, making it an easy addition to a weekend drive. Because specific pumpkin and hayride offerings can vary with the harvest, check the farm's current schedule before heading over.
A Few Tips Before Heading to the Pumpkin Patch
Fall farm schedules can change quickly because crops and activities depend on weather and field conditions. Before getting everyone into the car, check the farm's website or social pages that morning. Reservations are increasingly common for the larger attractions, particularly on October weekends.
Wear shoes you don't mind getting muddy, bring an extra layer for later in the afternoon, and consider arriving early. You'll usually encounter smaller crowds—and you'll have a better selection when you're searching for the pumpkin.
And don't rush home after you've found it. Grab the cider donuts, take the hayride and get the family picture. That's half the reason to go.
